Avéli® Long-Term Cellulite Reduction Procedure

Cellulite is a depression of any shape or size with defined edges seen on the skin’s surface, typically on the buttocks or thighs. A major underlying cause of cellulite is the fibrous bands that tether your skin to the structures below. These bands are septa, and while some septa are good (and you want them as connective tethers), others stiffen or shrink over time and lead to the cellulite dimples we see on the surface. It is easy to mistake skin laxity or localized fat for cellulite; during a consultation with Dr. Wu, she can determine whether your concern is cellulite and if Avéli® is the solution for you.

It is estimated that 90% of women have cellulite through no fault of their own. Avéli® is FDA-cleared to reduce cellulite in adult women by identifying and releasing the primary structural cause of cellulite from the inside. This single, minimally-invasive procedure has little downtime and is performed in our office using local anesthesia, targeting the web of septa bands that cause cellulite dimples. Avéli® specifically treats the bands of septa that cause the dimples and is not designed to treat lax skin or localized fat deposits. Avéli® is indicated for long-term reduction in the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thigh areas of adult females, as supported by clinical data demonstrating treatment benefits through one year of observation. The most common side effects reported were mild pain within the first 24 hours and bruising and tenderness to the touch, which typically resolve within 30 days. Some patients returned to normal activities within one day of the procedure, most within a week.
