SAFETY WITH BOTULINUM TOXIN INJECTIONS
There are investigations into counterfeit botulinum toxin injections in eleven states by the CDC, FDA, and state and local health departments. Twenty-two people have had severe reactions after receiving these injections in non-healthcare settings such as spas and homes. The symptoms have ranged from double or blurry vision, difficulty swallowing or breathing, and droopy eyelids.
At Cynthia Gregg MD Face and Body Specialists, we always ONLY order directly from the manufacturer of FDA-approved neuromodulators, including Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Daxxify®, and Xeomin®. These companies have strict safety standards in place. Our directing physicians are board-certified in their fields and our nurses have been CANS trained for injectables. We have stringent policies and procedures in place that include ordering injectables, storing, reconstituting, and dosing for different muscle groups of the face and body. Every neuromodulator we inject has an excellent track record for its safety and efficacy profiles. We are one of the top-tier injection centers by the sheer number of treatments we safely perform yearly.
I am always shocked when clients tell me they have been invited by friends to attend someone’s home for a “Botox Party.” Home party injectioning is certainly not the industry standard of care. The concern of counterfeit botulinum toxin is another strong reason to go only to a physician’s office with trained experts.
