Q: Is there a facelift option for me if my concern is in my lower face and jawline rather than my whole face?
A. There are many options for facial rejuvenation that can address the face from the hairline to the base of the neck. As we age, not all of us will have aged the same, especially on the face – some initially have laxity in the jowls and neck, while others may have sagging in their cheeks, and others in the eye area or brow. With customized facial plastic surgery, the specific sites of visible aging can be addressed.

During a consultation, it is essential to discuss thoroughly with patients their exact areas of concern. Using the Vector 3D imaging system, a mirror, and viewing of before and after photos, I give my patients a realistic idea of their potential outcome and confirm that I am addressing their specific issues.

When addressing the lower face and jawline, we have several options for aesthetic improvement. A facelift is a surgical procedure that will lift the lower facial tissues and improve the appearance of the neck. The name facelift is misleading because a facelift does not address the upper third of the face which consists of the eyes and forehead. The facelift consists of three procedures that are combined to rejuvenate the lower face and neck: a neck lift, a jowl lift/S lift, and a midface lift. It is crucial to precisely determine the anticipated results and the patient’s expectations for the surgery.

We also have several non-surgical options that include Kybella® injections for improvement of a double-chin, Ultherapy® which uses ultrasound to tighten tissue, Dermal filler injections, DOT laser resurfacing, Neuromodulators such as Botox®, and skin treatments for tightening and texture improvement.

As surgical techniques have evolved and non-surgical options have become more sophisticated, I am thrilled to have a wide variety of options for my patients wanting to rejuvenate different areas of the face. Because each patient differs in their concerns, facial anatomy, evolution of aging, skin elasticity, and texture, I do a lengthy and individualized consultation for everyone that I see. Surgery is a significant decision, and I believe it is critical that every patient has all available information to make an informed choice. With the ability to customize the facial surgery, we can provide very natural-looking and subtle results.
