/  Ask the Surgeon   /  Liposuction of Small Areas

Q: Before the COVID-19 quarantine and some resulting slight weight gain, I was very active and ate a healthy diet, but had small areas of fat that were not improved by diet and exercise. My recent lack of activity and change in eating habits has exacerbated this issue. Do I have options to enhance the appearance of these areas?
A. COVID-19 has resulted in what some call the “quarantine 15’, referencing weight gain due to different eating habits and less opportunity to exercise while staying home. It is not uncommon for active and fit women to have some stubborn areas of fat refractory to diet and exercise. Liposuction to small areas is an effective solution for these pockets of unwanted fat on an otherwise fit figure.

I see many athletic women who have pockets of stubborn fat around the bra strap “chicken nuggets,” bra line, upper arms, lower abdomen “mommy pouch,” lower back, and inner thighs. Liposuction to one or more of these areas is a quick procedure that requires minimal anesthesia and downtime. With many of my patients working from home due to COVID 19, they choose this time to have procedures such as liposuction discretely done not to miss work, and to keep it private unless they choose to share.
