Are you bothered by indented or depressed scars? We can help!

Subcision plus dermal filler for indented or depressed scars is a safe and effective way to reduce scars from acne, surgery, wounds, chicken pox, and vaccinations. These scars are caused by fibrous tissue that pulls down and tethers on the skin’s surface, creating an indentation.

Dermal filler alone, injected directly into a depressed scar, will not raise the indentation to eliminate the scar; it will just fill around it. The tethering of the fibrous tissue must be released, and then the scar can be filled, which is the process of subcision.

Our aesthetic nurse injectors will assess if you are a candidate for subcision to reduce or eliminate the appearance of your indented scars. They will then have you numb with a topical cream pre-procedure. After numbing, this straightforward procedure usually takes no more than 30 minutes.

The untethering of the scars begins with a tool that disperses the filler of choice while severing or detaching the adhesive nature of the fibrous tissue. It is essential to have a nurse injector who is experienced with this technique to ensure that your scars are effectively and safely treated.

The filler of choice for filling indented scars is generally a biostimulator to lay down a new layer of fresh collagenous tissue that will continue stimulating your body to create new collagen. Radiesse® and Sculptra® are examples of fillers used to treat acne and other depressed scars. Most patients require two treatment sessions to achieve optimal smooth results. After subcision, our aestheticians can provide microneedling to enhance the outcome further.

Subcision and accompanying dermal filler is a life-changing procedure for patients suffering from noticeable indented scars, especially on the face. It is critical to have a provider who is experienced in this treatment and can locate and execute the subcision of the scar within the proper dermal plan. Successfully treated, patients experience radiant and smooth skin and a renewed sense of confidence.

Call our office to schedule with one of our Aesthetic Nurse Injectors to learn if subcision is the resolution for your scars. We are here to answer your questions and help you reach your aesthetic goals.
