/  Blog   /  All Dermal Fillers are Not Created Equal, and No Faces Are the Same!

As they age, many people want to combat the signs of aging in a subtle way that does not dramatically change how they look. Patients often come to our office saying they want to rejuvenate their faces but are afraid of looking unnatural, puffy, or too full and round. We now have ways to combat the aging process that result in a beautiful, soft, unidentifiable way. All of our Nurse Injectors are highly experienced with hours of advanced training and continue to stay educated on the latest studies and techniques available for facial injectables. They thoroughly assess each patient’s facial aging and develop a plan to treat their specific concerns.

Aging of the human face is somewhat predictable in that we will inevitably lose fat in specific areas such as the cheek area, temples, and lips.  This is followed by the absorption of facial bones, which contributes to the narrowing of the jawline and erodes cheekbone support.  As a result, the skin will look lax or jowly without our strong bone structure. This process results in somewhat different hollows, lines, wrinkles, and shadows for each individual.

Just as every human face differs, so do the dermal fillers available for rejuvenation. Dermal fillers vary in their molecular makeup, weight, the ability to fill, smooth, hydrate, or support. For example, one may dislike their laugh lines, and many injectors think that filling the wrinkles and shadows would remedy the line. However, in reality, patients often develop laugh lines when they start losing the middle of the face fat pad and also loss of bone in the cheekbones and jawline. Using a dermal filler that would provide structure or foundation, we can replace the loss of bone and fat pad with the appropriate dermal filler and remedy the line with the underlying support.

The dreaded unnatural look that so many patients fear is typically when the dermal filler is placed broadly in areas of volume loss and just injected into a line or shadow without addressing the underlying source. Your choice of provider is critical as a skilled injector will know what areas of the face are causing the signs of aging and can choose the optimal dermal filler for that specific concern. Additionally, rebuilding structure is a longer-term solution than just filling in lines or shadows without replacing the lost fat and bone foundation.

Dermal filler is also used to hydrate and detail areas of the skin that show signs of aging with tiny lines that appear even at rest, lips that have lost their border, and overall skin texture. We liken this to restoring a home; if your home’s foundation has started to break down, you will not remedy this by painting the exterior. Conversely, if the foundation is firm and needs a refresh, you would simply paint the exterior and be happy with the results. The same theory holds true for your face; reinforcing the structure and then maintenance for hydration, texture, and some lines keeps your look fresh.

Dermal fillers continue to evolve. We are thrilled to be able to offer a full array of injectables to our patients, with the knowledge and experience to place them properly to achieve a long-lasting rejuvenation addressing the source of the aging process. With all the filler options, working with an injector who can address your signs of aging and loss of structural support is vital.
